Topic: Connery to Craig: Who's The Best Bond Ever | |
---|---|
I think the BEST Bond movie was:
"On Her Majesty's Secret Service" in 1969 with George Lazenby as Bond & Telly Savalas (Kojack) as the villian... By far the best story line ever for a Bond flick: Damn, it was the only Bond movie that James got married! LoL...With all that said I liked Roger Moore the best as the character of James Bond (However Danial Craig did awesome in his debut, maybe he can revive the character the writers tried to burry since the early 90's) |

Call me old school but here's why I liked Connery best. If you have ever
read the novels, he came closest to catching that sense of who Bond is in the books. (I always read the books. If a movie is made from a novel, I'll pick that up before seeing the movie. It helps give insight into the character, storyline, etc. Connery best captured that ruthlessness that the novelization had in it. I wont read a book that was written based on the movie though, waste of time). Ruthless, mean streak and a capacity for uber violence that Moore just fails to deliver. I see the Roger Moore Bond, and I see too much "I Spy". Dont get me wrong, Moore is entertaining and he was good both in I Spy and his Bond films, but his Bond comes off as a bit of a parody to me. Lazenby just couldn't live up to Connery and bowed out of his 7 film deal, and after seeing OHMSS I know why he did the right thing. The plot and story were good Sluggo, but simply failed for me. I cant help thinking it would've been a major hit if it was Connery... Lazenby just came off too wimpy. Dalton was probably the closest of all the Bonds to the creation of Fleming, but the actor himself is a little wooden in the movies, like he just felt obligated.. going through the motions. Brosnan returned Bond back to something similar to what Connery brought, and I put him at 2A (2B is Dalton, because of the likeness to the character in the books). I enjoyed his movies, but he went and priced himself out of the role. I confess I havent seen Casino Royale yet, but plan to when it hits Movie Central. |

More Bond trivia: Pierce Brosnan was supposed to replace Roger Moore,
but NBC (I think it was them) went and renewed his 5 yr. contract to keep him away from the series, even though they had plans to cancel Remington Steele before the renewal was made. Timothy Dalton played Bond at 41. He was offered the role when he was in his 20's but he declined, thinking he was too young for the part. |

I didn't read the books so I don't have that perspective but to me
Connery never had the smoothness of a Brit (probably because he's NOT one). Although I do like Connery! Personally unless the actor (or actress) is terrible they don't matter too much for me: I'm more into the Story and how realistic (or believeable) a movie is. Believability is why I couldn't watch Pierce Brosnan OR Timothy Dalton: Those movies had such Horrific Stunts and special effects the movies were unwatchable to me! All of their moives had stunts that were litterially impossible because physics alone wouldn't allow them! This is coming from someone that LOVES ScFi (LoL... I can buy an alien but defy physics or do something that impossible: even with all the luck in the world and I'm lost for the movie). Wait until you see Casino Royale the stunts are the best I've seen since I don't know when in a Bond movie, plus the movie is very old school so they don't screw it up with special effects..... |

Thank you,LAMom!
Sluggo, I decided not to talk about the special effectrs of the Brosnan/Dalton movies, though I do agree. Of course Moore's films got more ridiculous as the years went on. Sorry, but Moonraker was just stupidc at points with some of the crap. If you're gonna louse up a story with special effects, at least make them good, right? Speaking is Sci Fi, what do you think of the reworked Battlestar Galactica? |

Sean Connery was the best Bond I believe. He just had that pimp
mentality, and he did it well! |

Sean Connery was Bond. Accept no imitations. (But Roger Moore was cute).
