Topic: Linux Help - Bootable images running an EEE PC off a flash | |
---|---|
This is probably a long shot...
...but does anyone know where I can download bootable images intended to be placed directly (as in "dd if=image.file of=/dev/sda") onto an SD card, which would be used to boot an ASUS EEE? I'd like to try something other than the preloaded xandros install. Please, I don't mean to be rude, but please understand my problem first, before posting links you got from google which don't address my problem. There are a variety of LiveCD distributions targeted for the ASUS EEE (puppeee, eeePClinuxos, eeeXubuntu, etc) but they all seem to assume the user has access to a CD drive (even if in a second machine). They all seem to require that you boot off a live CD, then -create- a usb dongle or SD card image -using- the live cd. I don't want the LiveCD image, I want the bootable flash drive image. I don't -have- a CD drive, nor easy access to one. So I can't boot off a live CD to create the bootable image. My (possibly wrong?) understanding is that (from the bios perspective) booting off a flash drive is different from 'booting of an external cd drive' - but if anyone has any experience or knowledge of how to fake out the bios to use a liveCD image stored on a flash drive, that would be great. Thank you! |

Just to be clear, the best solution for me here would be a download link to someplace hosting the images suitable for placing directly on a flash drive. I don't care which distribution, as long as it includes everything needed (drivers, etc) for the EEE.

Thank you so much for responding!
Following links from that page, I found instructions for hand-crafting the file system on the usb drive using the files on a liveCD; not quite a prepared image, but it should work...but its for generic Ubuntu, not eeeXubuntu, so some drivers won't work. If anyone knows where I can find the actual flash drive image for an eee centric distro, please let me know. Thanks again, lonely! I'll see what I can do with that. |
