I have two accounts with Bank of America......i don't use a checkbook for either, i just use my checkcard....well, about two weeks ago my check card got missing and since then i've had these charges put on my primary checking acct without my knowledge or consent.....I just went there YESTERDAY to sign paperwork to get all this money back......and they told me I had to keep that acct open until the money was refunded......even though i do have another acct with this bank, they said the money cannot be transferred

Now I have just checked my acct online and found TWO more transactions against my acct, ONE DONE BY A CHECK (as i said, i don't use a checkbook).....

My question is: Is it true that even though you have two accts with one bank (and you are awaiting chargebacks to be refunded to one acct), can you have it set up where the money goes into the other acct and just go ahead and close out the one with all problems?

Sounds like you have to have the money deposited back into the account with all the problems. Once the money is there you should be able to immediately transfer the money over to the account that doesn't have the problems. I'd check with bank of america to see what there policy is.

That acct has to remain open until all transactions have posted. You can ask BOA to put a freeze on the card and checks so that no outgoing monies can be spent. If you have any direct deposits then you need to have those transferred to the acct that is not affected. Closing the acct that is affected doesnt work that way, any transaction made on that acct number will reopen it automatically. So if you have a direct deposit going in, it automatically reopens it. They can/will most likely find out where the charges were made and ask that company if they have video tape to see who was the person doing it. Ask BOA to put a stop/hold on that acct so that your card is rejected. If they do that and some person tries to use the card at an ATM then that machine will hold the card. Also if they try to use it at a store/gas station it will be denied.Sounds like the new charges were made before the date they posted. Charges hold on your account for at least 3 days before posting.

Oh dear...Bank of America is a nitemare!!!! BoA don't accomodate their customers AT ALL.

I had a bank check that never got to where it was suppose to go. I found out a month later & I went to BoA. They made me wait 3 months for my money even though they knew it was never cashed. Forget them actually doing anything if your account is messed up. No one there will make a decision to credit your account.

Get rid of them ASAP!!!!

I swear by Commerce....they are MUCH more accomodating.

I had a similar problem back in December. I also use BoA, I called the 800 number and reported my card stolen as I had gotten an email stating that charges were made to my account.

They sent me the paperwork even though I was going to be out of town, they sent it to where I was going to be. I filled it out, brought it to the bank and they faxed it over to the department it needed to go to. In less than 48 hours they credited my account for the amounts that were charged and in 90 days they found that it was not a charge I had made and sent me a letter stating that it was cleared. They didn't stop me from using my account or taking the money out of it. I've never had a problem with them, they've always done right by me.

Bank of America can set up automatic transfer from your checking to savings for sure. Mine is set up that way. If they do checking to checking, I think both accounts have to be open still.

I have had checks stolen with a different bank and they put a freeze on the account for any transactions happening outside of the bank itself. I have to say that I'm surprised they are letting these go through. US Bank did not pay out the forged checks before I even knew to report it based on the signature alone.

I would ask if they can't freeze the account and make the refund to me in the form of a check to deposit into the other account if they can not deposit it directly.
