Where does your religion stand with regards to affairs of state?
If the State is seperate, at the level of the law, from all religions than how would your participation, in any way, with the governance of state be viewed by your religious dictates? |

LMAO I have a different spin on this thought... My spiritual convictions forbid engaging in politics other than civil rights defense because the system is so corrupt. :) |

My religon takes absolutely no stand on politics, but directs its members to exercise their rights and vote for the candidate which they personally feel is the most appropriate for the position.

thanks BB - that's a fair reply. What's more, I think what you've said is a fair representation of what almost everyone in the US believes. For example, the only time people have an opinion of political affairs is when they think something is affecting them personally.
The truth is no one much cares what the government does as long it doesn't interfere with how they expect to live their lives. BUT ACTUALLY - what I was wondering is if anyone in JSH land hold any particualy "religious beleifs" or "religious morals" regarding political activity. Example - refusal to go to war, refusal to participate in any political arena, even jury duty or if a particular religion frowns of voting, for example. Along those lines what would any religion think about an individual getting involved PRO OR CON to civil rights political activity? ANYONE? |

Along those lines what would any religion think about an individual getting involved PRO OR CON to civil rights political activity? ANYONE? Well honestly... Refusal to go to war is a huge one, because a lot of people from alternative spiritual or cultural backgrounds would have ethical issues with being part of an invasion force regardless of how justification is explained. Most minority religion members who are active are driven towards civil rights, freedom of religion, and freedom of speech issues because even if church and state are seperate non Christians are not awarded equal rights per the majority of the population in reality. So far as I know although certain biblical lessons teach freedom of religion and belief as a basic concept, the church of our times teaches against this so Christians are not permitted to be christian per mainstream belief while standing up for the rights of non-christians. I understand this is a paradox, and I could be incorrect it is my personal view of the situation as I have witnessed it, and been exposed to discrimination from Christians without ever having other christians dispute, stop, or discourage them. |

Just for clarification I once had to get into an argument with a Judge in the performance of their office, who insisted it was not a violation of my civil rights for them to tell me to swear to "God". If not for four hundred witnesses watching I am not so sure I would have won the argument. |

I have no religion at all so I do what the heck I wish according to my own sweet and dear conscience .

My belief structures dont'fit'any of the current political parties platforms, although the new prime minister is doing a reasonable job of cleaning up the messes of former political parties.
What do I do when I feel there is a compromise between my belief structures, and the current political party? I get involved, from the ground up.... and enhance or create alternative options...depending on what is required. ( And hello Di, long time no speak) |

Oh please...some would like to twist it into their politicall correct pretzel. It's freedom OF religion. Meaning the govt. can't dictate... |

Are you assuming the judge was a Christian? Or just doing what he /she was hired to do? Or is this a fable with no proof to back it? Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm could be. |

Lets see no churches have anything to do with the state.
Do none of these people or is the church a charitable organization which allows tax deductions with the Govt.? If the answer is yes- u are in bed with the govt. under what is called 501c. By being a 501c affliate with the govt. if any talk against the govt. is found out guess what? They own you. Yes they can come in and shut you down for that reason alone. No more worship thier and no more 501c. When your pastor signs this piece of paper he and the board agree that nothing will be construed to be a non govering body that does not agree with the rules of it. We left along time ago.. Nobody is going to have that power over us. Tell us even if the Govt. is executing people for being late on thier taxes we have to agree this is ok. Would you agree to that? Blessings...Miles |

I think, once again, there seems to be a streak of paranoia running through the crowd.
I was not interested in how you view the rights of your particular church withing the government, I was interested in how your particular religious dogma dictated your actions as far as getting involved with political affairs? Here's an example. Let's say you really have a big chip on your shoulder against Mexicans. Now let's say that a school district in you state wants more funds in order to higher interpreters or special needs teachers to cater to the non-english speaking students. NOW let's say that YOU personally don't agree with this. How would your religions or your religious dogma view your attempts to get involved with politics and STOP those kids from having every advantage, even though you don't believe they should. That's just an example but maybe you'll get the picture now. BB - I believe your story, I've had of my own. For some reason, Christians tend to think they are the only group discriminated against. I didn't even set this OP up to be about Christians, it was simply about religious doctrines. |
