u can be talkin and then there gone and come back, three days later sayin me dog farted and I went offline. Is this rude or not?

I equate it with sitting at a table having a conversation with someone, and they just get up and leave the room without a word, leaving you sitting there to wonder 'Um, are they coming back? Was it something I said? Did a tornado tear them from their keyboard?' It's probably my #1 pet peeve about online communicating - people seem to have short attention spans and if they get a better 'offer' or grow bored, they just *poof* vanish without a word.

I agree that's my least favorite thing. I always tell someone I'm talking to that I'm logging off.

I have to agree with the rest of you. There's someone I've been talking to who disappears all the time! Then comes back wondering where I am.

If I'm in a continuous back and forth with someone...I will tell them I have to split, but if someone is shooting me one once in a while over a long period of time, I just assume they know I'll pick it up when I get back. I've never had someone say...where the devil did you go?

If its light conversation in the threads, I don't care. IM or e-mail, yes a sign off is nice.
If its an extended conversation in the threads, I contact them next day. Kind of like sending flowers.
