I'm not a doctor or nurse, but what I know of this is that it starts as
a sore, anywhere on the body, don't know if you heard about the little
boy who got hit in the face by a football or basketball, and developed
MRSA from the cut and lost part of his face, spent months at Childrens
hospital, surgeries, etc., this was in WA state, I think, so you may not
have heard. No it is not a VD, and I do believe that if you are clean
and have a sore and it is covered, as you say, maybe with antibiotic
ointment and a bandage, probably should be safe. But make sure the
sheets are washed in bleach, etc. The Dr. is right though, don't pick
at any sore you have, and if it does start to develop into something,
get medical attention fast. They have in extreme cases amputated toes
or feet, etc., to stop the infection, even a leg. And the stuff is fast
moving, so need to get attention fast.

While my dad was in the hospital having his burr holes put in his head
to drain his bleed about 1-1/2 years ago, met a woman there whose son
had fallen and actually developed MRSA internally. He did not have a
cut in his skin, so don't know how, but they were doing surgeries to
remove the diseased and dead tissue from inside him. Don't know if he
survived or not. The problem is that it is resistant to many of the
antibiotics we have to treat the infections.
