I don't think they should let "professionals" play in the Olympics anyhow.

But if any country asks you to play for them...why not? How many "foreigners" play on American teams, professionally? Or vice versa? How many Americans play Canadian hockey, or wrestle in Japan, or whatever?

You go with whoever is going to give you a chance. Maybe if the Americans gave her a chance, she'd be playing with them.

The olympics are not about money or power. They are about countries gettting together to compete and show their pride in their country.

Not money....but fame?

Aren't winning athletes deserving of some modicum of fame? Regardless of what country they represent?

So she plays here, lives here, makes money here, has family here, then when it comes to representing the country that made your whole life possible, you all of a suudden are a "patriot".
I'm sure she is a great athlete, and a fantastic person. This is just a poor choice. Everyone else in the real world would have to answer for their choices. Not athletes though. Go figure.

Why wasn't she offered a spot with the American team? Like I said, professionals shouldn't be part of the Olympics anyhow. AMATEURS...wasn't there a guy stripped of his medals because they'd found out he'd done professional sports? Jim Thorpe?

Not sure about that. But if no professionals can compete. Then no professionals should compete for anyone, not just us.
The russians have used pro hockey players for decades. Why not us.

Both hockey and basketball have been added to the Olympics, and both allowed professionals to play. Shouldn't be that way, is all I'm saying.

And all I'm saying is people are trying to excuse lack of loyalty.

No relation between loyalty and fame.

True enough...athletes will jump to another club if they can...or their CLUB will kick them out, pawn them off on another team--for the pros, anyhow.

Kinda like employers and employees. No loyalty, from EITHER side. Just "business".

And thats exactly what I'm talking about. I hope there is a time when we stop tolerating it.

Sir_Galahad's photo

Why shouldn't we tolerate it? Should I constrict you only to doing those things that are best for ME?? Or should you be permitted to do whatever is best for YOU?

You know, I look out for myself, because no one else is about to do it for me.

Look. I don't know where you work, but if you did things that helped you competitors at the detriment to your own company, you would be fired. They call it a conflict of interest. Why is this such a hard concept. She owes her ENTIRE lifestyle and everything in it to the American way of life, and then when it comes to (not glory, fame, or money) representation of our country she bails out. That is a classic conflict of interest.

I already do, Captain...if I can buy something that my company sells at a cheaper price somewhere else, that's EXACTLY what I do. I buy it from the competitor instead.

I do what's best for ME.

As far as representing HER country...well, they didn't ASK her, did they?

She was asked and declined.

What I meant was, do you work for a competitor. Like a Coca Cola rep. selling Pepsi on the side.
