Are there any gay women who think the word lesbian is not as nice as the
word Gay? Perhaps it is because it is usually used derogatorilly. Perhaps it is because gay sounds like the men are happy, but the women have a perverted habit. Whatcha think? |

I have alot of friends who are really close to me and they are
lesbians, but when they are around we use every word in the dictionary when we are all in conversation of something like that so no I dont think one word is any worse than the other! |

I myself am not a lesbian...but I have asked a lot of my friends who
are...and it's 50/50. Some make it a point to use the term lesbian, while others use gay. It's a preference I think. Just what I have gathered. |

Man, ahem, or Woman (or Womyn), I'm always late on these conversations.
In my neck of the woods there are a lot of Lesbians who refuse to identify as gay, and there are those who absolutely hate the word dyke. I think it's mostly a regional thing, at least now. There really is some history behind the words, but their meanings have just changed over the years. The "original" word and only one for a long time was Tom. Any female who had boyish tendencys were called TomBoys! |

R -- It's interesting how the terminology evolves over time -- I was
reading a book where they said at one time (I think this was in England) a gay man was referred to as being "a bit lavender" -- civilized and colorful at the same time (almost sounds like something Oscar Wilde would have come up with) -- I had a friend, years ago, who was a lesbian, but hated the word -- I used to joke around with her and call her "Lebanese" but she didn't like that any better.... |
