Two are of importance, and work. Both have disadvantages
I am not delving in theory of operation but brief for every one to get a grasp and not fall and loose money.

Water
There is a technique to use water as fuel. You may be surprised, It works on the basis that if you atomize (anything reduced enough in size will explode such as talcum powder, salt, and water is no exception) water and inject to the engine it will explode in the chamber and will reduce the gas usage significantly. This is ok and works, and conversion costs are fairly low but be warned the engine is useless after six months or so Why? It rusts to the point of no return. No Brainer

Propane

This is a technique widely used in Europe
You convert the car to run on Natural gas only or petrol and propane. Works very well
Disadvantages
1 Initial cost of installation is high so unless you do high miles it is not economical.
2 Takes a lot of space in the boot of the car
3 Propane is an oil product and if enough people converted we will be in the same situation in the hands of oil company
4 You loose some performance of the engine
