I once quit smoking for six years, and I'll tell you this. Once you've made it past sixteen days you've got it licked. You see, if you can do anything (brush your teeth, fasten your seatbelt) sixteen times in a row, without error, you've got a habit for life. SO if you can wake up sixteen days in a row without a smoke you've gotten a new habit.

(for those with an inquisitive nature, why did I start again? Well I'll answer that the way I always do, why does any man do what he does?)

Yes, EXCERCISE...everytime you get that urge to smoke...take a jog or dance or sumthing. It will occupy your mind, fill your lungs with fresh air and calm your nerves. You will get the added benefit of getting in shape and feeling GREAT! When I stopped smoking over 16 yrs ago, I did this and got into the BEST shape of my life! Got down to 100lbs of lean muscle machine...I got pregnant 5 months later and now have a beautiful and wonderful 15 yr old daughter flowerforyou

Also keep sugarfree candy and gum around to suck on. Drink lots of water. Get somethign to play with in your hands (pencil-rubber ball-etc)

Don't listen to them, don't feed that oral fixation. Just keep your hands busy, do a crossword, play with a pen, tidy something if you have to, but if your hands are busy, so is your mind, and that will allow you to not "think" about smoking. I'd recommend some chewing gum if you need it.

You'll start enjoying being smoke free in about 7 days, that's when your tastebuds and sense of smell will come back. You'll realize some of the things you've been missing are worth the headache of quitting.

Drink loads of water, use an actual measuring cup and drink ten of them a day, plus one for every caffienated drink you have.

Be prepared for other side effects and get a support person, to call you every day. You need that.

Put the money you spent on cigarettes.... the SAME amount each week/month into a jar on the counter, table, mantle.... use it next year for a vacation.

Stay away from people that smoke at work, and don't go out for any drinks.. Tough to see your old habits getting along fine without you.. From a reformed quitter..

SORRY didn't mean to bring anyone down. Just trying to use it as a tool to motivate. Sure needs to be used for some kind of purpose.

Wasn't a downer to me, I was just debating about telling you about my college prof that died of lung cancer at age 33. Never smoked a day in his life, but lived in NY and Paris for 8 years each. At least that's what he blamed. Me, I live on a farm grew up on a farm and will get lung cancer from my farm (farmer's or brown lung). Not all lung cancers come from smoking.
