Topic: Would you date a guy thats paralyzed? | |
---|---|
I know someone who is only 26 but a car accident left him paralyzed from the abdomen down. All his life, he was a ladies man and now all he gets are looks of pity. He's so depressed and doesnt want to live like this...what can I say? I wouldn't either. He had a gf that left him the minute she found out he had a spinal cord injury and when I saw him he said "no woman on earth want's me anymore." This isn't the vivacious, handsome kid I know. He's devastated by his inability to walk. Is he right? honestly, how much does it matter if a goodlooking kid is in a wheelchair?

wheelchair or not wouldn't bother me. not one bit. it's a guys personality, and ability to overcome that would attract me. not if he could walk or not

I wouldn't mind dating a lady who was a paraplegic. I wouldn't mind dating a lady who was blind. I wouldn't mind dating a lady who was deaf.
I won't date a lady who suffers from excessive diarrhea of the mouth, though. |

being on wheels wouldn't bother me if I fell for the person he is. But whether on wheels or not there has to be something about them that I admire before I will date anyone.

You said the waist down, right? Well, then that means his hands and tongue still work. Yup I would give it a shot if he was a nice guy too!

Just cuz he's in a wheelchair don't mean anything to me........he's not brain dead...........and i think it adds character anyway.

There is an older gentleman I have met at school. He is the sweetest guy in the world. Always keeping us happy and laughing. A car accident took the use of his legs and hips.
He now makes custom wheelchairs for other people. He is going to teach me how to weld and sure as hell I would go out with him if he ever asked me. He was great company on the art club outting to the museums in SF.......... I wouldn't even bat an eye if he asked me out. You cant beat people that are happy most of the time and care if you arent. Never judge a book by the cover |

I dated a guy who was wheelchair bound when I was in my early 20s. I had no problem with it.
to your friend. There are some great support group type places to help with the major adjustments ahead of him. Maybe help him check some of those out?? There but for the grace of God go I...I broke my back at 15 and was told I wouldn't walk again...two weeks later I was walking and 3 months later I was back on my horse. They are able to do some amazing things with spinal injuries these days...check out the web. And for caring so much about your friend's situation. |

He's devastated by his inability to walk. Is he right? honestly, how much does it matter if a goodlooking kid is in a wheelchair? In a special way, he has an opportunity to look at women the way many want to be looked at, from the neck up first. He can cling to self-pity if he wants to, but that's a choice, not a requirement. |

When was this accident? The bottom line is that no one knows what tomorrow is going to bring and it could so easily happen to any of us. We take so much for granted in this life...daily. I cannot imagine what you have been through with this ordeal, then and now. Ohio State has an incredible rehab specializing in spinal cord injuries and diseases, I believe it is ranked in the top 10 for the US. Again, they are doing some incredible work along with other places. Of course, I have a personal interest and am always intrigued and thankful for all the advances they are making in this field. I wish you nothing but the best and yes you do deserve the . May your friend have top care and be able to have peace. I'll be praying for you both. |

Yes, I would. In fact I remember seeing a guy in a chair at a gym once. I would have dated him in a heartbeat if we had met and he asked me out.
He smiled easily, had friends, was humourous, and generally seemed to have a great personality. The chair didn't seem to bother him and if it did, he didn't show it. Now if I saw this same guy and he didn't have these same qualities, I wouldn't date him. I think it's about attitude and how a person handles life changes and challenges. If he moped around, didn't laugh, smile or seemed bitter, I wouldn't date him if you paid me. The chair in and of itself is irrelevant. How a person sits in it is. |

I don't know. Why do you keep asking me?
