OK so last night I decided to reformat my computer. I have done Linux before but never XP.

I screwed up.

I now have a duel boot. When I turn on my desktop it asks me what OS I want.

I do not want that at all. I just wanted a clean wipe out of the hard drive with a fresh install. But I am starting to think I may have chosen the wrong partition at the begin with. I never once asked me for my product code either. So there is another clue to me that I screwed up. I just need the old OS off. Half of my HDD is being used up. Is there anybody that can help me? Please?flowerforyou

go into you bios swich the boot order to the cd drive first put you xp disk in and restart the computer. When it ask what partition to use it should have an option to do a new install this will format the drive and install xp just like it was a new install on a fresh drive.

There is a section in the Setup process where you select the partition to install onto. There is also an option to clear the partitions, 1 by 1.

Clearing them all will allow Setup to format the entire drive, not just one of its partitions.

If you want to have a clean install of just XP after having Linux installed, you'll need to nuke your Linux partitions and recreate NTFS partitions (XP will do this automatically). That means you'll need to run fdisk or cfdisk (google it). Once your partitions are cleared, plop the XP CD/DVD in and boot it up.

Alternatively, if you're doing a complete wipe of your system, you could use a low level format of your hard disks. The manufcaturer's website should have the tools you need.
