i keep both the seat and the lid down, cuz i have a dog, and i don't want him going in there and drinking from it.

I'd tell her to put it down if I hadn't and then go back to put it down for her. After returning to her she would inform me she already put it down and there was no need for me to go back there. I would then apologize and try to remember the the next time.
