Hey I think we (as in England) have a friendly coming up soon against the USA!! Something to watch out for!
|

No worries i'm sure England will stomp the crap out of us, were (most of the u.s.), just not that serious about our soccer, football on the other hand.

American Football, thats a bit like Rugby isn't it? Do you guys play Rugby over there? I am sure I have seen the USA have a team in the Rugby 7s

Nothing like rugby, believe we have a rugby team though. If we do they don't televise it, much like soccor you can't find that on the t.v. here anywhere, only baseball, footbll, basketball, hockey, and nascar.

Are the American people into things like Formula One racing?

What about this whole Beckham thing? What do you think? Has he had any impact on making football (soccer) more popular?

We don't get into formula much either, Beckham did make a small impact but it lasted only a short spell. The media was more interested in his wife for some reason she seemed to make more headlines than David did. I think if america could find a way to make money on soccer it would take off but they would have to spend money getting people interested in the sport and then it might take away from other things, I don't know how to explain it?

Aah yes, Victoria... I really can't make out why she gets so much attention. I mean she isn't even the nicest Spice Girl... Now Emma Bunten.. she is really nice. The thing is with the Beckhams, they really know how to play the media game. I mean, hats off to them... they have done well with very little to offer.
Is it true that more girls play soccer over there than guys? |

Actually soccer is the most popular (meaning the most people play it) youth sport in the U.S. The thing is that as guys get older they tend to branch off and play other sports. For the ladies their choices are more somewhat more limited and they gravitate toward either basketball or soccer
For the Beckham situation, well, we Americans like our scorers (MJ, LeBron, Ortiz, Crosby, ect) and set up men are relegated to second class citizenship (Magic Johnson excluded). With that in mind I think he's still provided a boost at the gate for the MLS teams when L.A. comes to town. For the U.S.A.-England friendly I think the U.S. will have a good showing but being in London I see a loss. These sort of games also bother me from the standpoint that if the U.S.A. wins it always seems to be a refrain of "Well, we weren't really trying." or "We're saving ourselves for (insert int'l tourney name here) and if we lose it's "Same old Americans." I still maintain that if the U.S.A.'s best athletes played soccer (like they do in other countries) as opposed to baseball/basketball/football/hockey we would be among the world's elite with the likes of Brazil, Germany and the other usual suspects. Incidentally England doesn't need to save themselves for anything since they'll be seeing Euro '08 the same way I will- on the tv. |

What about this whole Beckham thing? What do you think? Has he had any impact on making football (soccer) more popular? Eh. I don't think he's helped much. Just another person to put in the tabloids around here. We've got a nice venue here in the Dallas, TX area for soccer, but I've been and it's still less than half full every time I've been. |
