I don't believe it should be a requirement it really depends on the people. Going into my marriage I had a little bit of debt and my husband had school loans, we just added all of it to the monthly bills that we paid together.


But before I ever got married again I would want to know upfront what sort of debt and why it's there before because it does tell a lot about a person's background and lifestyle.

Agreed Fire and even if their lifestyle isn't yours they can modify it and perhaps you don't help pay "all" their debt but still most/all becomes part of the family bills.. very few people go in with no debt at all
