While sitting in a bar, here in California, the day before my daughters wedding. The bartender is a very attractive young lady, not much older than my daughter. I ordered a beer and noticed on the little blouse she was wearing, was the picture of a pole dancer. This area is thick with stripper bars and the regular bars hire the girls to bar tend, knowing it attracts the male customers. I wonder, as I sit there drinking my beer and the blurry eyed boys make cat-calls and try to think of the perfect line, to impress the pretty young bartender, what kinda tip I can give this young girl.(if your thinking something crude, shame on you)
Otis Redding is singing a song, on the jukebox and she says to me,"I don't know, about this music." So I tell her who it is and the name of the song,"I've got dreams to remember" she flashes a pretty smile at me for recognizing the tune, I suppose. I pick up a napkin and take out my pen and start writing something. Throw it away and try it again. Finally, after finishing my second beer, I throw a couple of bucks and the napkin on the bar and head out the door. After all, my daughter gets married tomarrow. No it wasn't my phone number! the words on the napkin were these; "Dreams are like ice cubes in your hands, cold and hard and melting away or they can flow through your fingers and touch others." |
