Spoken like a true Jedi, Mirror. And for some, it's like the Monty Python skit. I'm not here for an argument....

('twas called the argument clinic, I believe). No it wasn't....

Hard as it may be for people to understand, this is a free discussion forum and it does not have rules about only agreeing with or being silent about assertions about Christianity or that disagreeing is "bad manners."

Discussion (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/discussion%20)

1 : consideration of a question in open and usually informal debate

Notice that there is nothing in discussion about random attacks against another's belief system? If you actually look up how to have a debate, you will be shocked to discover that my OP pretty much covered everything you need to know about how to behave during a debate. There is nothing wrong with asking for all members of the forum to be treated with respect.

I feel you are fighting against what I consider to be
'churchianity'.

Like you say "To keep silent comes with the assumption that I approve. I do not. "

I do not either.

I see no need to try to silence every christian just because
of some that you do not approve of.

I do not 'imagine', I know.

I do not need to try to silence anyone. Everyone has a right to speak up and out about anything.

But Wouldee tells me that to speak up and out against Christianity is bad manners.

I don't think he would care if I spoke out against the cult of Eckankar for its claim to be the only path to God. Eckankar actually teaches that Christianity worships the Dark Lord Lucifer and that Christians just think they are worshiping the true God.

He claims that it is the act of speaking against the Religion of Christianity that is insulting to Christians and that is what he is trying to silence.

But I doubt if he would object to my questioning of the the truth of Eckankar or some other religion who claims to be the only way to God.

So his agenda is a hidden one. He is not defending good manners, he is defending his belief.

And spider, you present bible versus as fact and that is not true for all. I do not believe the bible is fact at all and others feel the same as I do. Facts are irrefutable facts not bible "facts". The book cannot be verified as the word of god, it has to be believed to be so and that makes it a doctrine of religion not a fact book.

This is not true, I don't. I have used verses from the Bible to support Christian beliefs, but not as fact. I'm afraid you just made a gratuitous assertion, but I felt that you were probably just carried by your emotions so I answered it with a factually sound and reasoned argument.

It is your assertion that I have "presented the information from the bible as irrefutable facts", unless you can provide any evidence that I have done so, you are making a gratuitous assertion. The burden of proof lies with the person who makes the claim.

JB, I bet you that almost every Christian in these forums would be glad to discuss any aspect of Christianity with you. But what you and others do is make shotgun arguments, where you will throw out dozens of complaints. When a Christian trys to address your concerns, you change the subject or you ignore their post and continue to insist that you are right, even if the facts are against you. I would bet dollars to donuts that is what Wouldee has a problem with.

If you think I am going to go back into all the religious threads to find your "proof", you are really taking this whole thing much much too seriously.noway I remember you doing it so if my word is not good enough oh well. You can have it. You can win this one by default and guess what??? I am not even bothered by this one iota.

Your bible can be fact to you. Your god can be everything and all encompassing to you. Your religion can make you feel right and all the rest of the world be damned. It matters not to me until you push it on me as right for me or everyone and then you will have a problem with me.

So blessed be.bigsmile

I am not sure what Wouldee's real problem is.

MorningSong is the only patient kind Christian I have encountered on this club who has taken the time to discuss Christianity with me without being condescending or argumentative and defensive.

Feralcatlady does not discuss details much, she just puts the information out there, and you can take it or leave it. I like that attitude and I asked her if I could use it myself. It saves a lot of time.

I really have no interest in discussing Christianity. I like to discuss my personal beliefs or I like to question assertions that don't make logical sense where it comes to any religion.

You aren't following the idea of a gratuitous assertion, are you? There is no "you win", you don't have that choice. The gratuitous assertion you made immediately made me the winner. You had no chance of "winning" in the first place, because I haven't done that. You obviously haven't followed the conversations very closely and got confused, that's understandable. Just admit you were wrong and move on, you will feel better.

3) Adults do not offer backhanded insults. When someone makes a comment like "The god of Abraham is evil and cruel, if someone can fool themself into believing otherwise, that's their problem. But I am honest with myself". In that sentence, you have accused everyone, who believes in the God of the Abraham, of being delusional. That's not discussing your beliefs, it's a backhand insult to those who believe differently than you do.

Yet the god of abraham supports the stoning of witches and the persecution of "Infidels" (to coin a phrase from one of the sects who believe in the god of abraham)
More blood has been spilt in the name of god/jesus/allah than all other religions combined, so when an infidel like myself states that the god of abraham is a wicked concept then we are supported by history

You just changed the subject...you took my example of a backhanded insult and used that for your rebuttal? LizardKing, I won't write you off, because you honestly don't know what you are doing. Abra, Funches and Rabbit are old enough and wise enough to know that they are acting like children. They are very aware of how they are acting...it's intentional, but your rebuttal above seems to indicate that you aren't yet mature enough yet to debate like an adult. Don't worry, keep on the track you are on and I'll write you off eventually.

Why quote the whole post when I am only responding to one paragraph? It seems to me to be rude to cause someone to waste a few seconds trying to figure out what I'm responding to, so I try to only quote the portion that I feel is relavent to my response.
