I don't think it is rude. I find it flattering that they want to make contact.

You should be flattered as well, could be that nobody would ever want to talk with you, and that wouldn't be so good, would it?

This is exactly my point...If the women didnt get the IM's or e-mails, the forum topic would be "This site sucks, no one's ever on or "whats wrong with my profile"

Question: If someone wanted to buy you ladies a drink in a bar, would you want them to send you a letter first?

Maybe rude was my wrong choice of word.
The one time that happened to me it was very uncomfortable getting an IM and not even having the time to look at a profile before accepting.
By the way after all was said and done, she came off as slightly psychotic. Makes me kind of gunshy.

I've never been to a bar in my life...not that I don't drink...just that I married so young and my husband never took me to one. Didn't miss much, I guess.

My IM has been turned off for so long I almost forgot that the site had itlaugh I just turned it. Figured it has been awhile.

But what is the big deal? I mean just like e-mail, and you except that from people that you do not know.

No, but I would not be comfortable if he was hiding behind something and I couldn't see who was asking!

You can look at their profile. Just do a search on their user name before you decide to accept or not.
