Topic: just a thought.... | |

I am on here, yahoo, and eharmony (which my membership is about to expire and I am not renewing it, this thread is inspired from eharmony).
If someone is going to try online dating, don't you think that one would be more open to a long distance relationship, even for a temporary peroid of time. Especially, if the person was within a day's car ride, wouldn't that be something to consider if you are on dating sites that include people from all of the United States or even the world. just my thoughts.... what are yours? |

I've done the long, long distance thing. Didn't work out. I get too lonely knowing that I have someone that I can't see ever.

While I WOULD appreciate some matches that were at least somewhat local, most of them have been from those living well away from my state, let alone city of residence. Not that I mind, mind you- the conversation is just as interesting, if only for the regional quirks and differences. |

Just because the dating site has people from all over the country/world, it doesn't necessarily mean many people will be open to a long distance relationship. Long distance is hard and most people don't want to deal with it.

Tanya, I totally agree. I think as few hours drive makes for great weekend trips!

I wasn't really interested in meeting someone so far away to be honest. I wouldn't be able to move from this area and wouldn't expect someone else to move from their area. I have too much responsibility here. My 4 yr old daughter lives with me part time and the other part she lives with her mother. If one of us moved far away, it would destroy the relationship that we all have. Wouldn't be fair to my little girl. I make sure we are within an hour tops!!!!

I would prefer someone closer, but being willing to consider someone a little further away increases your options. If you are willing to put a little effort into it, it could be worth it.

Yes, having children changes everything. Some of us can't move because of them. |

have child, still travels!
I guess I have a different situation with being a parent. My son's father is almost nonexistently involved. I plan on moving out of state for graduate school. So, I personally don't have a problem relocating. |

For the right person, I would probably deal with a long distance relationship if it came to that.

I'm talking with a beautiful lady about that exact same subject. I think of lot of it depends on the situation of both people. If one or both are easily movable, long distance shouldn't be much of a problem. It'll be hell between visits until one is fully freed up, but if there is intrest and willingness to change/move/comprimise, I think it can work. |
