Seem interested. Being on the threads really helps. You get to know the people. You can email about a topic from the threads that you were both on. A couple things that turn me off in a first email - Someone that has written a book that looks like it's been copied and pasted. Or someone that just says - hi, or hey sexy or what's up. It does get easier. We have all been where you are.
