The thing with dreams is they may mean something important to you but at the same time mean absolutely nothing to someone else, a good way to do it yourself is right after you awake from the dream write everything that you can remember down on a paper and go from there.

While there are some basic generalities re: symbolism and such, it should be kept in mind that there are few, if any, absolute universal meanings in dreams, from one person to another. In my experience, context, and knowing something about the individual, are also significant factors in deciphering the meaning of a dream.

I don't actually recall many of my dreams, of the one's I do recall it has helped more than asking someone else. Though there are people that can hit it on the nail with the dream it is difficult to find.
