Topic: Just watched a sappy movie | |
---|---|
Lacking anything better to do, I went and saw "Salaam e-Ishq", a
sitcom-ish dramatic collection of love stories that all cross paths in the end. You know the sappy kind - "boy meets girl, boy screws up, loses girl...". Four couples, so you get every kind of variation. Anyway, I watched it and thought to myself, hmmm, there's something all around not right about the situation. In one episode a 40yr old guy has a mid-life crisis and comes close to cheating on his wife with a tramp, gets caught, he gets all arrogant about wanting more from life... Another one, a girl travels around the world to find her elusive fiance who is pursuing some other girl. The taxi driver falls in love with the girl... Another one, a guy is so puppy-dogged over his girlfriend that he spends every scene crying while she recoveres from an accident. Yes, every scene. Finally she tells him "get lost, everytime i see you - your crying - enough!" So on the ride home I thought to myself, as contrived and hyped as these plots were, they never come close to really hitting the target on what destroys and makes a relationship. I suppose none of want to see a movie where the relationship dies a death of a thousand minor cuts - or where the disdain and vileness is a dripping poison. Thats all too close to home. But, maybe it would be nice to see a movie where such a situation happens and gets resolved. Is it just me? Or does anyone else agree with sappy movies somehow missing the mark. Sometimes thats refreshing, and entertaining, and today it was just gnawing at me. Your thoughts? |

They should make movies about getting together, breaking up, moving out,
cops getting involved, family members and friends taking sides, employment problems resulting, financial loss.....then, reconciling after great make-up sex, family members and friends avoiding the twosome altogether, jobs teetering on the edge, legal repercussions as a result of the first bread-up, and then succumbing to the pressure and breaking up again. Repeat as necessary......... |
