Totage , Yeast is in your everyday supermarket breads & rolls, but biscuits & muffins & cakes generally use baking powder or baking soda to make them rise. "quick breads" like banana bread also use baking powder or soda. Like just about everything else, the homemade versions are just better tasting. Read the ingedients on your supermarket bread label. grumble My home made bread has flour, milk or water, salt, sugar or honey, butter or some other fat, & yeast.

Yeast is a living organism that releases gas as it grows & multiplies rapidly & the gas bubbles are what makes the dough expand. The yeast adds flavor also. Traditional bread making takes planning & time because it needs to be kneaded & have "rising time" between kneading.

If you have a bread machine it makes it so much easier. The bread machine has a heater & timer, allowing you to add ingredients & walk away. In 3 hours & 20 minutes you have a loaf of fresh bread. I also use it just to make dough for pizza, rolls, bread sticks & cinnamon rolls.
