A momma's gotta do what a momma's gotta do!!! You're his parent, not his buddy.

No, you are standing your ground. If you have a reason for your son not to ride his bike to school, then he should obey. Boys will be boys, but mother over-rules.

I think a lot of it depends on his maturity level, traffic, all kinds of stuff. I won't let my son ride his but he'd have to cross a couple of major roads, tons of traffic, etc. But when his school was just a few blocks away, I let him ride.

If you could ride with your child and if you feel comfortable, let your child. Also depends on how old your child is and safety and if they could have a buddy to ride with. Always safer in pairs. You could also use it as a good behavior reward. Can have a positive effect. Good luck....

I'd say give him a day...make sure he wears his helmet...ride to and from school without making pit-stops. Give him the big lecture of looking both ways before riding, stop at all stop signs, and so on. He may hate the lecture but he will love you for the chance to ride.

I think it depends...are there any really busy roads he has to cross? Is he responsible enough to actually stop and look both ways before he rides his bike across? I think it's the parents call on what age they can. My younger sister didn't start riding her bike to school till she was in 4th grade either.

I know I am overprotective with my kids, but this world is a scary place, so who can blame me?!?

I was a mile from my grade school and walked or rode my bike almost every day....but that was 30 years ago.

If I had a kid today, that would stump me too. I think parenting is extremely difficult these days...hats off to those of you who face these hard decisions every day. flowerforyou

No kidding, I ran the neighborhood freely and every person within blocks knew all the kids and their parents well. Today people have to watch their kid walk to the neighbors house and can't breath until the door shuts behind them...if then. It really is a sad sad thing. frown
