My core beliefs are Christian. So my answers to you are based Biblically. Having said that, everything on the earth was put here by the Creator (God) for the benefit of the human race. So basically we are not here for anything's benefit but ourselves and God's. But, God did command us to be "good stewards" of the gifts he has given us. In that light is where we as a race has come up short. But, the ingenuity of man, and the planet's own healing power, (all gifts from the Creator) can undo much - maybe not all - of the damage that has occurred because of our lack of being good stewards.

This, is my humble opinion.
