In any discussion of polygamy, one should remember that polygamy is the default system for most of the world. Most of Africa, Muslims, and Hindus practice, or allow the practice of polygamy. The Euro-American community is pretty much alone in its condemnation of polygamy as wrong. We don't believe in polygamy, but, it is no ones business if we have 400 different sexual partners in our lives. Something kinda hypocritical in this viewpoint, IMAO

perhaps we should send child services to India, children as young as 8 are married off for the convenience and social standing of the family in arranged marriages. That is one way the family can move from one level of the caste system to the next....all part of their religious beliefs. I don't in any way agree with polygamy nor child brides, but, My grandmother was 14 when she married my grandfather, md for 67 years happily, and my Mother was barely 16, and knocked up, when she dm my Father, md happily for 63 years. I would not want a young bride, but, I respect others rights to practice as they believe. Just because ppl choose to believe one way or another that may not agree with my views does not make them wrong, in my eyes. More power to them because they actually practice their beliefs to the best of their ability rather than pay lip service to them like most of the rest of us.

IMO, It's not the governments right to decide what marriage is, how many wives/husbands one can have, etc. it should be legal.

Although I do not condone the practice, I don't feel it's the governments right to make that decision.

As for the underage marriages and abuse, yes that should be illegal and legal actions should be taken.

The way I look at it (and it is only my opinion, mind you) is that it's been around for so long, leave it be. It's what they want, they're happy.

Yes, they're marrying off young children, but if everyone looked back into their ancestry, there could possibly be a relative that was married exceptionally young. Our coutry is the only one that really condones it.

Back in the days, to be well let's say my age and being unmarried was unheard of. If you were 22 and not married, something was wrong with you...you were a spinster...an old maid. Hense where the the name is coined from.


Would I have wanted to be a young bride? No, but far from me to judge them for what they believe in.
