I quit 11 years ago, started again 5 years ago. I'll tell you this though. If you can make it through the first sixteen days of quitting, you have the whole thing licked. If a person does anything sixteen times in a row, you've gotten yourself a habit. So waking up sixteen days without a smoke is a habit for life.

Every hour some more alvoli in your lungs come back to life, so your cough might pick up for a week or two, but ignore that. Do some running, the heavy breathing will break it up a little quicker and the cough will subside quicker.

If your jonesing bad, smoke some pot, it's not addictive and it'll make you relax. The bonus is you'll be stoned and space off that you wanted a smoke. With any luck you'll space cigarettes right off the face of the earth - it can happen.

I know, I'm giving advice on quitting after admitting to being a retread smoker. That was a conscious decision to start again, and I'll continue to do so until I have someone positive in my life again. But I don't encourage the habit, though we could use the tax revenue generated by the sales.

Good luck, breathe easy!!!
