My profile views disappear daily

That happens a lot -- I had 26 new views a couple days ago, most of whom I have never even seen in the forums. And nobody ever says a word. Granted, my profile is designed to weed out the women who only want a guy who comes with a steering wheel, but is everybody here like that?

That's just a metaphor -- it seems to me that there are a lot of women on a lot of dating sites who are only interested in a guy who can be "steered" by them -- they simply aren't interested in a guy with a brain, who is capable of doing his own thinking. A lot of these women want to do the "driving," but only on a very narrow and highly familiar road. (Another metaphor.)

Dating sites, in general -- particularly the "non-specialized" ones -- seem to appeal primarily to a "mainstream" clientele; I've noticed that guys who either are mainstream, or who can appear to be mainstream, get more attention.

I suppose this is to be expected -- dating sites are in business to make money, and that means they need to appeal to the broadest possible potential membership pool. So they are necessarily going to gear themselves toward the mindsets/agendas that are perceived as being the most "common" or "popular" or "desirable," and pay considerably less attention to those who are not part of that mainstream group.

My profile is intended to weed out anybody who would try to "domesticate" me -- inasmuch as I'm not a goat -- and to make it very clear that I'm not interested in being Mr. Normal. The thing that has ultimately surprised me, during the 16 months I've been here, is how few (zero?) people can relate to my own personal preferences. I have met some in real life; none here. That's the main reason I've given up on dating sites as a way to meet people.
