It does happen. I used to wonder why in a more trendy restaurant the only people that applied for the job openings were skinny 5'8 women. :) I mean, please. In fact when I used to work in human resources I remember having to pull one of the managers in and say to him, "Look, you have a lot of applicants here but you are staffing 90% women and of those women, they are all model-like, knock it the F*** off or you are going to open us to a rather ugly lawsuit."

It can get tricky. Me, I don't worry about it. I'm not breaking the bank with looks but I don't assume that my table took longer to clear because of it. :)
