The way I figure the virgin birth is that God has control over birth. He implants our souls at the moment of conception and though man has figured out what is happening at conception, basically God is in control. I figure he created Jesus' DNA somehow. Not sure exactly how he did it, but the physical part of conception had to be there: creation of the first cell(s) and division from there, etc.
Likewise, creation of a woman from the man's rib. God has control of the physical universe. It's very evident from the recounting of Jesus' miracles that he had a superb command of physics. i.e. walking on water, The way I figure it, he had to change his gravitational constant somehow. He must have been messing around with his body's mass or the specific gravity of the water or some such. He did likewise for Peter, until Peter got so far and then, kerplunk! Down he went. I think this is a bit of proof, this and other things, that Jesus had a sense of humor. The resurrection, again, was a bit of the Lord's mastery of the physical universe. It was pretty clear throughout the Gospels & Acts that people of faith could raise the dead with a word or two. Usually, they said up, arise or some such, and the person who was only sleeping arose. At any rate, this is as far as I've gotten with it. Just wanted to share these insights with you. May God Bless You and give you insight into the mysteries in his word. |

I'm glad people aren't buying these things. It means folks are thinking about what's happening and that's what we SHOULD do, I think.

Yes people SHOULD think, but most do not. The so called virgin births were around long before christianity.

Mebbe, but just one of them counted in the Christian chronicle. What's really amazing is how receptive Mary was to the whole concept. She was pretty obedient. "I'm the Lord's Handmaiden" and all that, was her reply, basically. I think John Mark in Acts was her brother, too. Quite a family, eh?

I think the universe speaks for itself as far as miracles go. Not need to invoke any specific folklore.
The miracle is right in front of your nose and is happening every moment of your life. I see no need to make up stories about virgin births. If Jesus really was a virgin birth caused by a deity then everything he did was for naught. It would have only been remarkable had he been a mortal man. How can an immortal deity that knows he is God expect mortal men to behave the way he did? That’s like comparing apples with oranges. Jesus did nothing amazing if he actually was God. Why would he even want to break his own rules. Supposedly God doesn’t even like sin much less be tempted by it. So it would be absurd to think that Jesus actually had to fight temptation (assuming that he really was God). And if he wasn’t God,… well that kind of blows the whole ideology out of the water doesn’t it? Seems to me it’s a lose-lose situation no matter how you view it. Mythologies always fall flat on their face if you’re willing to seriously challenge them. On the other hand if you prefer to believe in these things then more power to you. But it gets really old when you try to proselytize these beliefs like as if they have some kind of merit. They seriously don’t. There’s far too many contradictions. Like the one I just pointed out in this post. If Jesus was God he did nothing special. If he was just a man, then the whole mythology falls apart. It’s just a non-workable idea no matter how you look at it. |

I respectfully disagree. It seems to work for me and brings me a lot of happiness. So much so, that I wish the same for everyone else on JSH, etc. Don't mean to offend or anything, but I do mean to spread the word about what I've learned and what I believe. There's some very surprising things out there.
And I agree, the miracles are all around us every day. The very fact that you and I exist, can see, think, breath and such is a miracle. The existence of the earth and the sky is a miracle as is the kiss of rainfall from a summer sky. I am truly amazed every moment of every day and it's a great, great thing. |
