is it just me, or does the use of this word by our service men to describe every iraqi semi offensive? i'm sure it has roots in our knowledge of johny quest.
i find great irony how many lack an understanding of the word's meaning. a hajji is someone who has completed the trip to mecca. it is a term of respect, not prejudicial lumping of one racial group. a term of respect turned into a racial tool |

my brother spent a few months in iraq, he came back with hajji coppies. bootleg dvd's. all his stories were hajji this and hajji that. my bestfriend does the same thing, he's been as well.
what amazes me about my brother is that we both use to share the same extreme distaste for racism. i told him that his words seemed racist and he rationalized it. i asked him what it meant and he said it was like saying mr. to everyone. no, it's a term of respect they're using in a very generic way to label a people. |
