Doctors have made some really STUPID mistakes tho..like leaving their tools INSIDE a patient..like cutting open the wrong body part when the correct body part was CLEARLY marked..I've seen so many people go in for one thing and come out with either something else wrong or not come out at all. im not disagreeing with you... However... Doctors may be smart and have 12 years of training, but they are all human. They are working on methods of counting surgical material that will help prevent errors such as the ones you ae talking about. Goss for example, is practically invisible. You rely on several nurses to count your supplies while you perform a surgery that can take like 12 hours or more. Thats a long time to have your head in the game. In fact, it's biologically impossible. And there are always others watching them do what they do. So any "stupid" mistake should be caught by one of the crew. I guess that's why things like that only happen to one out of every 15,500 patients. Some are careless. Others don't care. But i'm sure that most do, since they have to do well in college for 8 to 10 years, go through the crazy acceptance process for medical schools, pass the boards and tests and do a 4 to 7 year residency on top of the 8 to 10 years of college, and oh yeah, collect $250,000 of college debt. I'm not coming up with excuses, but accidents do happen. Thre are no excuses for these mistakes just like there are no excuses for any other accident. I'm sure they don't leave tools in their patients for a cheap thrill. But in relation to your story i do reiterate, it is shadey what they did. I have seen them make calls on organ donors a little too soon before. Partially because once the person is completely dead (when the body dies) it's too late to pull organs. And partially because they have several other people on their death beds waiting for these organs and the soooner they get them, the more likely they will survive. Doctors get attached to their patients quite often. But it is sad, and angers me when someone tries to harvest organs too soon. |

I have had 30..yes 30! surgeries since birth..only 2 were successful..When they put in my first shunt and again when they closed my back..both of those took place as soon as I was born..literally like mins after birth. My latest one was when I was 25..thats the one where they almost killed me twice..and those were not from "human error"..those were from "human ignorance" because they refused to listen to me..I know that Medicine isn't an "exact science"..but LISTENING to a patient isn't all that hard to do..and as I said they denied me the proper tests because it cost too much..They were behaving like I was asking them to take money from their very own pocket to pay for the freakin MRI..The problem with docs..and most people actually is they have the "it will never happen to me or anyone that I love".So they don't care.

wow, no wonder you lost so much respect... i see where you are coming from. Sounds almost like you were a victim of insurance policies, and standard hospital procedures. You may be right on some of those doctors not caring as well.

Did I also mention what the last doc said to me when I told him that I was still having headaches?..He wanted to do an EXPERIMENTAL brain surgery on me..told me "Well I don't know anything about the shunt you have now so I wanna go in and take that out and put in something that I know about"..I just walked out of his office..that was crazy..he couldn't read a book or go on the net and find out about it?..hell I did! |
