You know, I have been watching some old movies as of late, cause over the past couple of years it seems that Hollywood has last that "magical" touch it once had. They used to make "magical" movies. Movies that inspired. Movies that made you believe in the goodness of people. Movies that made you believe in yourself, or movies that made you cry cause they were romantic, or inspiring....they made you feel good about being alive.

I was watching Jerry McGuire the other night. A great movie that truly can inspire you. Their are so many themes you can take from this film, but the one that really hit me the other night was the theme of "change". You see, Tom Cruise plays Jerry McGuire, a sports agent who has built a career out of talking fast, making promises to potential clients that he will keep, but he will do anything to make it happen. In the beginning, it doesn't matter to him if that client of his gets hurt. He is not really into their well being. He is into his own, which means that all he cares about is that he will make more money by his clients making more money. But life changes for Jerry. He gets a "conscience" and becomes inspired to change. Suddenly, that career of lies he built doesn't matter. Why does this happen? Cause Jerry is asked by one of his clients sons if he cares about his fathers well being? Jerry lies, and that gets to him.

I'm sure alot of you have seen this film, and the love story that is in it. So I don't have to explain the whole film. But their is one part that really hit home to me. It's when Cuba Gooding Jr's character, after the Monday Night Football game comes out of the locker room, sees Jerry, and two men hug. It's in that moment that you feel the movie sums up everything. Cuba's character (Rod) realizes that Jerry was right all along about how he (Rod) just needed to shut his mouth and play football...for himself and not just for money or endorsements. Jerry realizes that this moment, this special moment he is sharing with Rod, is missing something...and it is Dorothy, the one woman he then realizes completes him.

And when Jerry goes home and says, "Hello. I'm looking for my wife!"....you see him come full circle and we see that he understands who he is now. He is not the same guy who talked fast and did anything he could to sign someone and not really care. He is not the same guy who couldn't love someone. He is now a man who cares about what he does, who cares about the well being of his clients, and who now knows what it means to be in love.

I watched this movie the other night and thought, "It is sad that writers in Hollywood cannot write stuff like this the way they used to. Hollywood used to be a magical place. It is so rare to see great films like this that inspire...at least it is these days." And I also thought that it was sad that people refuse to see that magic....in love...can happen. If a guy like Jerry McGuire can find it, even if it takes him on that kind of a journey, in the end, that journey is worth it.
