i meant to add with that boxer example. the cousins, they have 3 kids and regularly have people over. not a single issue.

i know someone who has a pit that's a really nice dog.

i might get one myself just cuz everyone thinks they're horrible

I don't know about pitbulls. They're the only dog I've heard of turning on their masters for apparently no reason.

i have cousins who have 3 boxers.

and i can throw up a negative example. as a kid my brother had one bite him in the face.

i could train a beagle to eat your face if i wanted

Toast, boxers are one of the most gentle/protective breeds of dog around... I did major research before I got mine and he is all that they said he'd be... if inbreeding happens you can't trust any temperment.. I had a st. bernard that went nuts at 5 yrs.. he never attacked me but tried my younger brother and sister..

there are also a ton of people who train them poorly

that is an issue. inbreeding.. seeking to have the bloodlines be so pure that they ruin the animal.

either way, i'll never own a dog that i doubt i'd be able to kill if it was trying for my life

I'd never want to kill my dog even if I had to "cujo".. but if it came to that I don't even question him.. 99% of dogs know that we are the alpha's and they may try to test the waters like any pack animal does.. almost always they know that they can't... it's rare that a dog hurts a human owner...

i've trained a dog. he came out well.

the little hound that i had as my pic for a couple days. he'd NEVER do anything to harm anyone, well..maybe if i was getting hurt.

prime example... a few years back some little 3 year old was picking on him. poking at him and all that, being an annoying little kid. my dog just walked away and kept about 2ft distance until the kid grew tired of it, then he went and layed down somewhere

AND that is what 99% of dogs will do... My dog would never ever hurt something weaker than him unless it was hurting one of us.. and he ALWAYS protects anything smaller..

i have him trained a bit beyond what most people do, but yes. most dogs will not attack. they just annoy me because of lack of training. or should i say, training to my liking.

though i'm ok with just about any dog as long as they know to go away when told

My dog loves attention and will annoy the sh!t out of you.. he is an attention whore and will even put his head between your legs while walking and walk with you at the same time.. I can't help but laugh even though its not a good trait..

you know... i've had an 80lb dog standing on my lap growling in my face while i sat on a couch. why? because my friend next to me made some kind of a noise. it bugged the dog and the dog came to me for some reason. not a situation i like. wondering how much of my face i might lose or if it'll get my neck before i can crush the dog's throat. tense situation. i was a bit annoyed that the owner thought it was funny, the girl has no clue about many things..grumble dog got off after a couple seconds.

i was fairly mad, to say the least.

why is the dog that way? well i've heard that it's been wrestled with while having a plastic bag placed over it's head..

thinking back, i still can't decide if a lack of action was the right move.

that dog i'm speaking of, it was not a well trained animal.

no human should be an animal's subordinate, even if they don't know them.

...i'm not saying dominance was the issue there. no, that dog did a few other things that i heard of.

He didn't bite you.. I was almost killed by a german shepard when I was 2.. I tore me up have scares all over, thankfully none to large or deep to notice.. He did have me be the jugular which isn't a good thing... I have never been fond of german shepards but have never been afraid of dogs until I had my sons...

no, he didn't bite me. the dog was just meh.. 4-5 inches away from my face. any further away, i would have done something.

..i don't wanna looooooose my face:cry:

bigsmile

i dunno, i had a very strong feeling that a sudden movement would have caused some badness. all along i was getting more pissed and wanting to hurt the thing.

only german shepards i don't like are cop dogs, they're really not that well trained
