I think it happened to me. My friend said I was praying at the house for a couple of hours but I had no recollection of it. I might not have known what I was talking about or saying, but I'm sure the Lord did.

Good question miles...

I have no clue, I do not refer to it as such...

I have absolutely no explanation...

Circumstances only...

I am at an alter,on my knees, at the end of the regular service. Leaning over it with my elbows resting upon it while softly singing the words of a hymn... "Holy Spirit breathe on me" over and over.... slowly and softly...

I remember nothing of the event itself other than the beginning, which I just described...

and the end...

when I came back into conscious thought which was long after most of the other church members had left... I could not walk... barely could stand... had to be helped back to my vehicle and my ex had to drive us home...

The greatest desire that I had then, and still have, was to be the best man that I possibly could be... whatever that is...

Interestingly enough, our church regularly sang songs with the name Yahweh in them...huh

from the net...

What causes fainting?

Fainting, which is also called syncope, can be caused by many different things. Sometimes a specific cause for fainting cannot be found.

Fainting happens when your brain does not get enough oxygen. You lose consciousness, or "pass out," for a brief time (usually just a few seconds or minutes).

A sudden drop in your blood pressure can also cause you to faint. Sometimes your heart rate and blood vessels can't react fast enough when your body's need for oxygen changes. This is very common among older people and in people who have certain health conditions, such as diabetes. Fainting can happen when:

* You stand up too fast.
* You work or play hard, especially if it's very hot.
* You begin to breathe too fast (called hyperventilating).
* You get very upset. Being upset can affect the nerves that control your blood pressure.
* You're taking medicine for high blood pressure.

Coughing, urinating and stretching can also get in the way of the flow of oxygen to the brain and may cause you to faint. If you faint once during one of these activities, it's probably not something to worry about......

(Mat 12:38-40 KJV) Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. {39} But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it

I can assure you that what I experienced on that day was not fainting...laugh

It is the reason that you have never seen my words deny the Holy Spirit's existence...

For lack of better description, I felt like my body was drunk...

When I was a kid in church my brother got up from kneeling and did exactly what you describe. However since we do not believe in this type of thing we gave it a medical reason.

I really want to make clear that I point these out to add to the overall conversation of the thread and make clear that I think that this is just a physical phenomenon that people want to attach God too. I am not attacking anyones personal experience. If it helps you personally I am happy for you. In the big picture of things I agree with the lonely walker that people use this to create a following and increase a bank account.

Yes, there are times when we each look for supporting facts to substantiate what we hold as truth, whether it be consciously or subconsciously.

Suddenly standing up is common cause for fainting, I would agree...

I was kneeling and resting on my elbows with my head bowed down... and singing whole-heartedly while asking for the Spirit's influence... quietly... no-one else knew what I was asking for... there were no hands being placed upon me, that I know of...

I have no explanation only the citation of the circumstances surrounding the event...

I too question the validity of some things seen, especially on television shows and such... the Benny Hinn's of this world...

'God' does not need your money, nor mine...

Receiving does not necessitate a prior understanding of what one is receiving, does it?

i agree with you. it's wasn't a part of my upbringing but i won't discount the why's or how's. medically...the mind is a complicated thing and there can be medical explainations. spiritually....that's only the ones that experience that can answer. i can't say someone is faking or it's not medical or spiritual. i can only answer for myself. flowerforyou

A self-induced, state of euphoria, initiated by a willfully heightened state of any strong emotion, caused by the endogenous stimulation of the mu opioid receptors of the body with excessive endorphins.
Use of specific pharmaceuticals, which may induce, heighten or suppress the reaction (exogenous), has been catalogued. Group affectation has been catalogued. Addictive behavior has been catalogued, in which, the state having been successfully attained, at some point following, onset of mild to moderate depression, depending on the level and frequency of state attainment, influencing subject to again seek the stimulus.
Associations regarding research being conducted with schizophrenia patients has been noted.

I once passed out in church because too many of my brain cells died while listening to a ridiculous sermon based on gross misinterpretation of scripture.

Does that count?

No it doesn't.......and if you misinterpreted the scripture you should of asked someone to explain it...

As I can answer for myself that I went in with the whole mind set that it was poppy ****.......and it was the most overwhelming experience of my life......The Lord has since then taking over my body on many occasions and I leave with the most overwhelming sense of peace and contentment......and the desire even more so to bring it to the masses. It is my filling station so to speak and it gives me the strength, courage, and wisdom to spread the good news of God. Things that have happen in my life as far as the Lord are so much so that I would never deny his exsistance....He has brought miracle after miracle and shown me in way that I just know he is there. One of these days I will again share these experiences....there are alot.

I fear you may have misconstrued my comment...I said "...sermon based on gross misinterpretation of scripture.". I do not believe that it was I, that required additional tutelage, but rather the deliverer.

Creative Soul... what you experienced, I have also experienced.
I also speak in tongues..and a lot of my christian friends, who didn't before..... now also speak in tongues ,and are now totally on fire for God!!

Whereas none of us were, before .
What made the difference?

Point is....
There is something to this being infilled with the Holy Spirit... and this being slain in the spirit ..and this speaking in tongues also..
This move of the Holy Spirit is happening for a reason.

God said in the last days, He would pour out His spirit upon all flesh.

It is beginning to happen...more and more... this "latter rain" outpouring and moving of the Holy Spirit .
This "latter rain" outpouring, will be as the "former rain" outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

We are just seeing a trickle right now....so far.
MUCH More is to come.

Remember reading....how at Pentacost, the apostles were drunk in the spirit, when the Holy Spirit came down, and fell....like a mighty rushing wind?

Remember reading...later on after pentacost....how when some of the deciples passed by, that some people even fell under their shadow...and were healed....cause the annointing on the deciples lives were so strong?

Remember reading about the beggar, who asked for alms....and the deciples said, "Alms we have not, but what we have, we give unto you"..and the deciples reached down and pulled the beggar to his feet..and he could walk?

God is EMPOWERING his people to do a mighty work in the Name of Jesus.....in other words..to get the work done on Earth.
Cause God is just waiting on us.

If the devil has power,do you think God is going to leave his people powerless in these last days, against the enemy?

Last night my cousin called....weeping...cause he is a christian, but is in terrible bondage to drugs.
Strangely, my pc clicked of, at the very instant his call came thru....otherwise I would have missed the call.

At the very instant he said he was in bondage to drugs, the Holy Spirit rose up in me.....and I got mad at the devil..and said ,"you fowl spirit of drug addiction , lose your hold on my cousin....in Jesus Name!!!!!"

I could literally feel the power of the Holy Spirit rising up in me!!
And I believe at the name of Jesus, shackles are broken and old sluefoot has to flee!!

That is an example of what I mean, when I speak of the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
It is given....and thererfore is moving for a PURPOSE.....to get people set free......and to get God's work done on Earth!!

Gosh darn...
I Feel a SHOUT coming on right now...laugh
Hallelulia !!!!
Praise God!!!!
AMEN!!!flowerforyou flowerforyou

How could the death of said brain cells possibly have preceded the event which actually caused their deaths? Are you an expert in pretzel logic?
laugh

Since I was obviously being sarcastic in the first place, are you truly badgering (albeit in a goodly manner) me on this particular comment, or is it really because of the other, more scientific, one?

Adherents of many, very different, religions experience the equivalent of being "slain in the spirit". To me, this (coupled with medical research data) indicates that the state is manically self-induced and/or also, there is one universal supreme being which encompasses all faiths.

About what Lordling said........
in some instances, there are some chuches that grossly misinterpret scripture.

God said , "my sheep hear my voice ,and the voice of a stranger they will not follow".

And believe me, I have heard some men teach on scripture, and it was grossly misinterpreted on their part.

And that is when I simply just chuck their own misintrepreted parts, and just recieve the good part of the teaching.

Afterall, man is fallible...and that is why one has gotta be sure they are hearing the Word of God is beinG preached...and not just man's own interpretation.

The amazing thing is...God gives that "knowing ability " to a born again christian........to where even a baby christian can tell...whether a bunch of hogwash is being taught....or the actual Word of God.

It is true....
God's Sheep DO KNOW His Voice...and the voice of a stranger they will not follow !!flowerforyou
Amen.
