I went to visit my friend who owns a book store today, and our friend came in...he is the eternal devils advocate.
If you say the sky is blue, he says it's red at sunset. He is an awesome person, the kinda guy that will being you gas if you run out at 3am. However he is the most annoying person to have discussions with. Pick a side any side... just do it with intelligence and FACTS. I see alot of that on here, and a question was posed yesterday about wanteing to know someones stance or where their POV came from. Discuss, I'm verklept...... (name that reference) |

i'm guilty of this. i do it on purpose...learned it while on the debate team, lol.
um...if you can debate every side of a topic, often you come to see things in a slightly different light...and you might catch something that you've missed. it's almost a form of brainstorming for me. also, i don't necessarily feel that my opinion on certain subjects is anyone's business. so i'll present a few sides and let them pick for themselves, lol... |

My feeling is that devil's advocates are pseudo intellectuals... and have no original thoughts in their head. |

i'm guilty of this. i do it on purpose...learned it while on the debate team, lol. um...if you can debate every side of a topic, often you come to see things in a slightly different light...and you might catch something that you've missed. it's almost a form of brainstorming for me. also, i don't necessarily feel that my opinion on certain subjects is anyone's business. so i'll present a few sides and let them pick for themselves, lol... this guy is ALWAYS the devils advocate.... never has a view of his own, only ever presents the other side even if 27 people in the room are for something, he will argue against, simply to be the advocate..... He's a fence rider..... and I hate that... |

He used to sit on our church council, and he would always argue a point, then side with us, to not create waves... I would have rather he presented his case and changed my mind... on most things if people present an intelligent option, I can be swayed... believe it or not...
