Shadow black curtains, from dust and age, swing back and forth across the old bay window...
It reminds me that the years have passed by, and I hear myself sigh, as it makes me ask, where did they go?
Were they spent in a way that makes me proud, in a way that makes me want to tell my stories when I'm old?
Will I tell them with a voice, that's barely a whisper, or in a voice, that's strong, and loud, and bold?

An old friendly wind drifts by now again, it carries the perfume of those who have passed,
It reminds me that those who I've loved in my life, their years also drifted by pretty fast.
Were they spent in a way that makes me remember, who they were, who they are... who they wanted to be?
Will I remember them as a stranger, closed off to the world, or people who were wild, and radiant... and free?

Pictures that curl at their delicate edges... smeared with fingerprints and time, by the years that they've felt
Make the world fly by like a book with no pages,
as in a single image, the memory was dealt.
Was it a picture that shows what they wanted? or does it show something, just a little bit more...
After all, haven't the years that have passed, been wasted,
If you can't see more then what you're looking for?

The pillow feels soft as it cools my old cheek, and I can really feel the years as I step off to sleep,
And my mind drifts off to dreaming, about what years I should keep,
Will they be the ones that that remind me of times, that made me who I am to me?
Or will it be of life ahead, and the way I think it should be?
Will you tell them to your children, so they'll have those same years too?
The best of dreams take all your years...
