Jesus disciples had to watch him die at the hands of his enemies and his friends and then be resurrected again so they would understand the real meaning of life, love, surrender, faith, forgiveness, and uniting together for one purpose to teach and preach and help spread the gospel even unto their own crucifixions.

I believe that true believers, although we are sinners and often fail to walk the straight and narrow path, are to go out into the world and teach as we have been taught. And just like Jesus set the example before us we will be burdened and unloved by many. But we won't let others discourage us ultimately because God has his hand in everything we do too.

Standing up for what we believe in can get us killed. And the nicer we are to others the more the devil hates and wants to torture us. The bible clearly teaches that those who will follow Jesus to seek the kingdom of heaven will suffer persecution. And when we do we know our feet must be headed in the right direction.

I've always loved this bit of biblical encouragement. In contemplation of its true meaning I realized for me this means that only if I'm able to subdue my will to do everything my way and become teachable like a child there's no way I'd want to suffer as Christ did for a heavenly goal I have to believe in sight unseen.
