It's a really weird and real story as long as there are witnesses, but What do ghosts want from humans?

There is now conclusive evidence that UFO's exist. There are creatures out there that very few of us have seen.
There are also USO's, Unidentified Submerged Objects in our oceans so I think those so-called mermaids are aliens who have been on Earth for a very long time.

So true. Mermaids or mammy water as we call them here are real. They are water beings. They have physical manifestations on the earth as half fish ,pythons, snakes, possess a Man or woman etc

It could be real.
God knows

Could be real if say, a traditional native culture put effigies of fish on their heads for some reason, and if it was on an attractive naked native girl, and foreign sailors saw it, they may remember it well, and embellish the story.

Religion: Oannes came from the sea to teach humanity, he apparently was part fish and part man. I think it is related to why the pope wears a fish on his head.

In the myths about Mu, Lamaria, and Atlantis, some weird stuff is claimed. If it is all from another time or dimension, maybe some of it is true; and sailors saw things through a time warp or by other unusual means.

What would ancient and future people say about the bed ridden super obese people of our age, needing a crane to leave their abode; half whale half human ?
Or the body art freaks with tattoos and skin inserts, looking anything but standard human. spock

Thanks for your opinion

There are, but we will never see them.

It might really exist, but in another dimension.

Actually, it was belived that the first written books on the Land of Mu or what The east and west call, Atlantis, was a type of sea people...Some said they were hybrid looking sea humanoid.

In earlier versions of the story of The Garden of Eden, it is said the serpent was not a serpent or snake, but a being that came out of the sea, to teach early man...technology, farming and medicine..
Good post by the way...Thanks.

You're welcome

Mermaids are just characters in stories, of course. But in a world saturated with mermaid mythology, people sometimes think they see them in real life. When Christopher Columbus set out to sea in 1492, he had a mermaid sighting of his own; little did he know that this encounter was actually the first written record of manatees in North America. It might seem strange to confuse a slow-moving, blubbery sea cow with a beautiful, fish-tailed maiden. Yet it’s a common enough mistake that the scientific name for manatees and dugongs is Sirenia, a name reminiscent of mythical mermaids. Even today there are false mermaid sightings. After a fake documentary special on mermaids aired on Animal Planet in 2013, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was flooded with calls from people asking for the truth about mermaids. (The truth is that mermaids are entirely fictional.)

Simply a case of mistaken identity.

Respect your point.

Centuries ago very lonely/horny sailors having had a rum or two, may have imagined that Manitees, Dugongs, Sea Cows, and similar animals reminded them of a woman somehow. Then artists created their own attractive versions for all to see. Possibly originating on a ships bow figurehead - pretty lady up front for luck, but the boat, the body, is a fish.
They probably were never real, as in the art, or in any sense; whichever version, it would be bestiality, let alone kissing a fish head.

See the Futurama episode when Fry runs away from his new mermaid fiance, when he finds out how fish fertilise their eggs - no sex. laugh

It is not created for humans
But there may be a mention of her from the same platoon.laugh

what whoa

It's hard to answer questions like that.
But we have it in the animals that actually exist to close the door of the search.
