Isn't that part of a new system where you can be informed of the mail you are supposed to receive? An app you can put on your computer or smart phone? Supposed to reduce lost or stolen mail.

It is already done with your emails so why not with your post anyway.

Actually Amazon started doing that then they send you a text message with the pic on your steps ect to prove that they have delivered it. That was done due to all the stolen packages that are being reported..Myself I thought it was a pretty neat added feature...

It is called "Informed Delivery" and is an option one can use.

From what I understand, it is not every single piece of mail coming thru the post system.

Where are you finding such information?

In an era, where seemingly, everyone,
is out to scam for "free stuff". It only
makes sense, that a delivery agent would
photograph a parcel, at point of delivery.

It may seem a wee Stasi - ish.
But, thanks to all the thieving bastards,
it's a necessary evil.

*Stasi* is a reference to the former East German
secret police.

Having worked at the USPS, and having family still at the USPS, I will tell you that is not true in the United States. I do not know about other countries though.

Oh I'd say I'm about 99.99% sure they aren't photographing
the words someone writes inside of the letters they are mailing..

Grandma would be pretty upset if it was found out she has been
celebrating her 75th birthday for the last 5 years now...

we just go along with her because it does no harm...
Happy 75th Birthday Granny...waving enjoy the card & small gift
we've enclosed...

everything you mail or is mailed to u ...is photographed by the post offices

I saw that on a Jon Stossel special.
It's actually done by a secret ring of packagaphiles that exchange the photos with each other on the dark web.
Geraldo Rivera was part of the program.
He participated on a chat forum pretending to be a refrigerator box to see who would show up to take pictures.
But the eyeholes gave him away and scared them off.

Your face is recorded every time you use an atm or self checkout lane, too.

Having worked at the USPS, and having family still at the USPS, I will tell you that is not true in the United States.

Mail isolation control and tracking program.

I will qualify my earlier comment. There is now in place bar codes that are placed on the mail so that they can be read and sorted easier. For that purpose, there are photos of the envelope only, in so far as the codes need to be read by the sorter. But as far as opening mail, its a federal offense. they have postal investigators on site that inspect and prosecute illegal offenses by employees or staff.

I doubt they make photographs over here. What's the point? They have the scans of barcodes and/or QR codes and these tell everything there is to tell.
What's the added value of photographs of tens of thousands of envelopes?

 I agree ... it is illegal to open and read others mail ... but I would think the bar codes are enough to have... if they want to try and find something with each mail ...

I think it is allowed in prison ... can't be for sure on that though ...
