Wow. Noah's Ark discovered in Turkey. Great news, huh ... ? Sure it is. Why, of COURSE it's 'Noah's Ark'. They better be findin' some 'historic' animal crap in there along with the wood if they wanna make a case for that ... If he took 'em in actin' like the local 'SPCA' of his day, there should be poop all over the place ... and straw and hay and ... Wood alone ain't gonna convince anybody. Well, except those who WANT to be convinced ... there's always that 'true believer' segment of crazies ...

'Noah's Ark' found in Turkey

By STAFF REPORTER | Published: Today

THE remains of Noah's Ark have been discovered 13,000ft up a Turkish mountain, it has been claimed.

A group of Chinese and Turkish evangelical explorers say they have found wooden remains on Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey.

They claim carbon dating proves the relics are 4,800 years old — around the same time the ark was said to be afloat.

Yeung Wing-Cheung, from the Noah's Ark Ministries International research team, said: "It's not 100 per cent that it is Noah's Ark, but we think it is 99.9 per cent that this is it." He said the structure contained several compartments, some with wooden beams, that they believe were used to house animals.

The group of evangelical archaeologists ruled out an established human settlement on the grounds none have ever been found above 11,000 ft in the vicinity, Yeung said.

Local Turkish officials will ask the central government in Ankara to apply for UNESCO World Heritage status so the site can be protected while a major archaeological dig is conducted. The biblical story says that God decided to flood the Earth after seeing how corrupt it was (Ahem ... he mustn't be looking very hard right now ... ). He then told Noah to build an ark and fill it with two of every animal species.

After the flood waters receded, the Bible says, the ark came to rest on a mountain.

Many believe that Mount Ararat, the highest point in the region, is where the ark and her inhabitants ran aground.

Something tells me they didn't find Noah's Ark. Being that these explorers are evangelical explorers leaves me wondering if they will allow scientists to carbon date the material from the site or allow non evangelical archeologists on the site? What a load, two of every animal. How many animals are extinct today versus what was alive in his time? Is this "ark" the size of the mall of America?

I've always thought the Noah's ark story to be quite ridiculous.
I wonder if a true believer can tell me which one of Noah's family carried herpes? Foot fungus? Syphillus(sp?)?

Not to mention, there are far more animal (and insect) species than could possibly be carried in a boat the size as described in the bible.

Not to mention, the whole story, falls on it's face when one applies a little logic. Why would some supposedly "all-powerfull" being need to do anything like a flood in the first place? If he wanted all the "bad" people dead, he could've just given them all heartattacks and saved Noah alot of trouble. Or just disappeared them.

There have been previous discoveries of planked Golpher Wood on Mount Ararat that appeared to be from a vessel. Golpher Wood of that type is found only in Iraq--and not 13,000 feet up a mountain! Those discoveries were not made by evangelists.

There are many stories in other religions about great floods and Noah type characters. Rather than saving all the animals on earth the original Noah probably saved his family and what domesticated animals he had at the time. Are the remnants of the original Noah on a Mountain somewhere in the middle east? It may be probable.

This is true. It is also true that indigenous peoples of that area, thousands of years ago, used to bring wood up that mountain for burial ceremonies and other religious rights.

Actually not. The story of Noah, in the bible, is taken almost word for word from a Sumarian story, The Tales of Gilgamesh(sp?).
Which itself was probably a rip off of an even more ancient tale of an Egyptian or Jewish tradesman named Noah who had his family and some livestock on a boat with him when the river he was on flooded and pushed him out to sea, overnight, while they was sleeping.

Honestly, I don't know how or why the news would even report something like that. Please. Even if someone found some 'old wood' (does wood really survive that long?) they can't say they have found Noah's ark. First, they can't even prove Noah existed.
